Glenelg Country School’s Alumni Association invites you to participate in the 5th Annual Dragon Dash on the campus of Glenelg Country School!

The event includes a cross-country 5K run, as well as a 1-mile family walk. Proceeds from the event fund two “Always a Dragon” awards, one a college scholarship for a graduating GCS senior and the other a tuition scholarship for a rising GCS ninth grader.

Race Course Description and Regulations
The cross-country course traverses the school’s 87-acre campus, taking participants through open fields and wooded paths. Please note: the course is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers, and pets are not allowed. The 1-mile family walk follows our flat, open driveway and is conducive for the use of strollers and wheelchairs.

Can I walk (instead of run)?
Of course! You are welcome to run or walk – just keep moving forward!
Do I have to be part of the Glenelg Country School community to participate?
No, all are welcome.
Are children welcome?
Absolutely! Children are encouraged to run, walk or enjoy the many fun activities available during the event.
What if it rains?
The Dragon Dash is held rain or shine.
How do I get my t-shirt?
You can pick up your t-shirt when you pick up your packet, either at the packet pick-up times or the day of the event. Remember that if you register the morning of the Dragon Dash, you are not guaranteed a t-shirt.
Do I need to come to packet pick-up or can I get my shirt and number the morning of the event?
To avoid standing in line the morning of the event, we strongly encourage you to pick up your packet during packet pick-up at Glenelg Country School. However, you can pick up your packet the morning of the race if necessary.
What’s included in my race packet?
Your race packet includes your Dragon Dash t-shirt, your bib number and safety pins. Your bib should be pinned to the front of your shirt for the event. If you are registered for the 5K, you will also receive a timing chip which you will place on your shoe for the race.
What is the 5K route? Is the course marked?
The 5K route is the same route the GCS cross-country team uses for their meets. Maps will be available before the race. The course will be marked with a white line and members of the GCS XC team will be marshaling the course to keep runners on track.
Are strollers and dogs allowed on the course?
The 5K course is a cross-country course and is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers. The 1-mile walk follows our flat, open driveway and is conducive for the use of strollers and wheelchairs. Pets are not allowed.
Are there prizes?
Awards will be given to the top three male and top three female finishers overall. All 5K and 1-mile participants are automatically entered to win one of several random prizes.
What time should I arrive?
If you’re already registered, please plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before start time. If you plan to register that morning, please arrive at least one hour before the race begins.
Is the race chip-timed?
Yes, the Dragon Dash 5K is chip timed. You will receive a disposable timing chip with your packet.
Where does the 1-mile walk start? What time?
The 1-mile walk will start at 9:10 a.m. in the circle directly in front of the Upper School.
