Welcome to the GCS College Counseling Web Site
As a college preparatory school, GCS takes seriously
its role in guiding its graduates toward exciting and
satisfying post-graduate opportunities. The primary
goal of the College Counseling Office is to assist each
student in conducting a thorough and successful college
search, at the end of which the student will select
the college that best meets his or her needs. In keeping
with the School’s overall mission to encourage
the development of the entire person, we understand
that each student’s college search is unique to
him or her. We believe that the college search is a
“team effort,” and strive to include parents,
teachers, advisors, coaches and administrators, at the
same time having the student retain “ownership”
of the process.
The College Counseling staff plays a variety of roles
in the process: we serve as educators, raising awareness
of the array of college options; advisors, counseling
students on the appropriateness of their prospective
college lists; and advocates, promoting students’
strengths and qualifications to each college and university.
Our program includes large group meetings, individual
conferences, small group classes, guest speakers and
college visitations, among other components. Our membership
in admission organizations, on the local, regional and
national levels, provides us with ongoing professional
development, as well as the opportunity to make valuable
contacts with college and university personnel.
