Community Service-Learning Program
Engaging in community service allows Glenelg Country School
students to learn about the needs in their world and the ways they
can help to fulfill them. Service provides them with an opportunity
to "give back" to the world a measure of the "gifts" they have been given.
Caring stems from service and nurtures within them a compassion for those
less fortunate and a concern for the quality of their environment. When this
caring becomes a "habit of the heart," they begin to feel the satisfaction of
having made a positive difference in their world. They also recognize the influence
they can have in their local, state and international communities in relieving
suffering and in securing a good quality of life for others and ultimately for
themselves. By fostering a culture of service and connecting it to academic
learning the Glenelg Country School transforms community service into service-learning.
Students are encouraged to embrace the condition of their world and to use their
knowledge and skills to support community needs. In so doing, they will graduate
as responsible civic-minded citizens.
