Lower School Student Connects with Cookies

Shay Kathuria
Rising fourth-grade student, Aiden F., like many other Glenelg Country School (GCS) students, missed seeing his friends and teachers during the pandemic. As a natural social butterfly, whenever his mother asked what he missed most about school, Aiden would confidently declare “recess!” or “lunch!”

Whenever he began to feel socially isolated, Aiden would ask his mom to see and enjoy snacks virtually with his friends. It was then that Aiden and his mom reached out to GCS about launching virtual initiative Connecting Children through Conversations and Cookies. With the help of faculty and Anne Wooleyhand, head of Lower School, the school created a virtual meeting space and time for students to join.

During the initiative, Aiden distributed his homemade cookies via bike to classmates in his Maple Lawn neighborhood. Aiden’s virtual gathering made life more social, with giggles and constant chitchatting filling up the house.
