We go beyond poses and explore meditation, mindfulness, and the contemplative arts, using the Three Jewels Method™ of motion, mindfulness, and meditation. Our focus is to improve and harmonize body, energy, and mind. Yogis focus on a different mindfulness practice each day and receive their own mat to design and keep—a favorite yoga camp activity. Campers have fun practicing postures, breathing, and meditation to achieve mental and physical clarity, with a focus on Zen meditation and arts. Yogis also create various art projects, including Zen gardens, tea boxes, and calligraphy. Campers also learn about the art of the Japanese Zen Tea Ceremony and sample healthy teas. Please note that food allergens may be present during this camp.

If campers already know how to knit, they can learn to purl, increase, and decrease to create more elaborate projects of their own design. Campers are encouraged to bring their dolls each day. The week concludes with a special and delicious tea party and doll fashion show.

Camper improve their math abilities through games, visualizations, iPad apps, and even Soroban, a Japanese abacus that helps improve math fact recollection through kinesthetic and visual practice. Other fun activities include outdoor math, including math fact hopscotch, math baseball, and searching for natural examples of mathematical sequences. Campers also make mathematical connections to algorithms and computer languages through an introduction to Scratch and Hopscotch programming.

Campers develop a connection to history and the land through this meditative art form as they explore natural fiber dyeing methods, make a functional drop spindle, and learn to spin wood into colorful yarn. The yarn can then be used to make lovely one-of-a-kind jewelry or a small knitted project. Come enjoy a different “spin” on summer!

Ollivanders wand shop is all the way in London, so we have to make our own—and you don’t want to miss potions class, playing Quidditch, and many other colorful, magical projects and activities. We finish the week with a graduation ceremony and (of course) chocolate frogs. Wizarding attire is optional but welcome.

Studying famous artists can be an excellent way to spark creativity and promote a lifetime love of art.  Our young masters-in-training explore a variety of media to create original drawings and three-dimensional pieces, including a painting on canvas, a wire sculpture self-portrait, a cool watercolor piece, a pop-art ice cream sculpture, and much more. TeenzArtists proudly present their work at a brief show on Friday.

We say two, three, four, or more! Inspired by mixed-media masters Paul Klee and Pablo Picasso, campers experiment and combine their favorite materials, using new methods to create amazing works of art. Each piece combines multiple media, including marker, pastel, watercolor, paint, metal tooling, printmaking, and collage. TeenzArtists proudly present their work at a brief show on Friday.

A propensity for tinkering, working with his or her hands, and solving everyday problems with real-world solutions? Then Tool Time might be just the thing. For this STEAM camp, campers need some prior exposure to hand tools and an understanding of how to use Windows PCs. We explore the tools and programs used in a STEAM program and use STEAM as an artistic platform. Campers develop viable and discernible solutions to real-world problems using tools such as drills, hand saws, Dremel tools, Google Sketchup, and engineering notebooks. Whether a budding engineer or seasoned craftsperson, your camper gets a taste of the Science. Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics that make up STEAM!

At the start of the week, each camper “adopts” his or her own pet Webkinz stuffed animal, and then the fun begins! Campers spend time online in a virtual world with their new friends and then tinker and engineer in the GCS Tinkerlab to create all the comforts of home for their new pets! There is no limit to the imaginative collaboration campers can have with friends old and new as they spend the week playing and creating from the heart.
